ABOUT ME

Hi and welcome! My name is Shannon Wakefield, and I am a HPCSA-registered Educational Psychologist. I am currently completing my PhD in Educational Psychology, with a research focus on adolescent resilience.

I have experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults across a broad range of mental health needs. I offer a neurodiverse-affirming and gender-affirming practice, and all services are offered in English.

MY APPROACH

My approach to psychotherapy is person-centred, integrative, brain-based and interactional.

This means that I:

  • Believe in the innate human capacity for self-actualisation and healing, and that a supportive, empathic, and non-judgmental therapeutic relationship can help promote this process.

  • Integrate techniques from different therapeutic modalities which are based on and tailored to the diverse needs of each client. Each person is unique and I believe that my chosen techniques and approaches should reflect this.

  • Work in alignment with the brain's natural processes (e.g., Eye movements/ bilateral stimulation in EMDR) to help promote client wellbeing.

  • Apply Interactional and Relational Pattern Analysis to observe and strategically focus on a client's interactional variables that may be beneficial to address to promote increased interpersonal and relational wellbeing.
